About Us
Rhizom Institut für Interkulturelle Kommunikation Berlin (RIIK Berlin)
RIIK BERLIN is an independent, non-profit and intercultural association based in Berlin. As a platform for creativity, cultural production, and social engagement, RIIK was founded with the belief that art and social transformation are inseparable. We are committed to creating inclusive structures that connect people across borders—linguistic, cultural, and systemic.
We are not just an agency, a school, or a production office—we are a multicultural association that unites all these roles within one interdisciplinary structure. Through both long-term cultural strategies and immediate community initiatives, RIIK bridges the gap between creative freedom and social responsibility.
Our Vision
At RIIK, we believe culture is not an elite domain—it’s a living, collective practice.
Our mission is to make space for voices that are often unheard, stories that are often untold, and collaborations that challenge the expected. Whether through socially engaged workshops, independent film productions, or cross-border educational programs, we see cultural work as a tool for resilience, critical dialogue, and connection.
How We Work
RIIK operates through two main branches, each rooted in its own methodology but interconnected in practice:
RIIK Social: The socially driven side of RIIK, focusing on inclusive projects for migrants, underrepresented groups, and communities with limited access to cultural and educational resources. This branch develops workshops, empowerment programs, and EU-funded initiatives with a strong focus on participation, care, and sustainability.
RIIK Collective: The creative and artistic engine of the association. Through creative producing, exhibition-making, and the digital magazine RIIKMag, this branch supports independent creators and experimental formats that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling and cultural dialogue.
Why “RIIK”?
The name RIIK refers to the rhizome—a root system that grows in multiple directions without a central hierarchy. This symbolizes our philosophy: decentralized, adaptable, collaborative.
We are shaped by the people who co-create with us—artists, educators, activists, migrants, and thinkers—each contributing to a horizontal structure where no voice is above another.
RIIK is a living structure—a house for critical imagination, artistic resistance, and community-rooted action.
Based in Berlin, reaching across Europe.
